House Numbering!

Just as important as the File of Life is the ability of Emergency Personnel

to locate the person requesting aid. They can not find you if your home is

not properly numbered.

This is the Law!

Massachusetts General Law ch.148 s.59 states: Every building in the Commonwealth, including, but not limited to, dwellings, apartment buildings, condominiums, and business establishments shall have affixed thereto a number representing the address of such building. said number shall be of a nature and size and shall be situated on the building so that, to the extent practicable, it is visible from the nearest street or road proving vehicular access to such building.

The Town of Barnstable General Ordinance, Chapter III, Article V states that the numbering:

Be visible from both directions from the main road that the numbers were issued.

That the numbers be Arabic numerals (no Roman numerals, script or written).

That the color of numbers be of high contrast with the background materials.

Black and white is optimum, brass numbers on neutral colored background or unfinished siding is not acceptable.

Be at least 3 inch numbers appearing in one of the following locations:

On the building at eye level, preferably at the main entrance.

Over garage door, if visible from the street ( not on the garage door; when door is up, number is not visible ) !

On Mailbox, post, or wooden sign at the road entrance of the driveway visible from the road.

If your house is not numbered properly, a delay of rescue services could result in

 injury or death.

Please help us avoid needless tragedy. Number your house properly.

side door lamp and screw in the "BEACON".

*       Use these lamps in the usual and normal fashion.

*       However, after making the 911 call, flip the light switch

on and  off twice in quick succession.

*       The bulb will now flash, alerting responders.

*       After the 911 response, turn the light switch off

and then on. The lamp will now operate in the normal mode.

911 Phones

Do you know, that a "Cordless" phone requires Electricity (120 VAC)?

Do you know, that with a "Cordless" phone you can not make a 9-1-1 call, or for that matter any call if you have no Electricity?

Do you have a "Hard Wired" phone, which will work, even if there is no Electricity?

These "Hard Wired" phones are very inexpensive and can be plugged into your telephone outlet if there is an emergency.
