How the Police helps Seniors:

Seniors, you can work with your Police Department.

The United States Bill of Rights, Amendment IV to the Constitution states;

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized".

Keeping this in mind, your Police Department will work toward the prevention of crime, detection of crime and the apprehension of those responsible for the commission of crimes. They will promote the highest standards of the police profession through selection and training of law enforcement officers and pledge and strive for the highest degree of respect for law and order throughout the Town of Barnstable. The Police can also be the Senior’s friend. They are anxious to serve you. Is there a need for "Conflict Resolution"? Can certain acts of persons result in tragic consequences? Trust your Police. They will respect your privacy. You will remain anonymous. Are there persons who violate Rules of the Road or create unnecessary noise on your street? Let the Police know. Again, you will remain anonymous. Do you observe situations which, to you, just don’t seem right? Call your Police. They will investigate and determine the necessary course of action. If everything appears to be within the law, the Police will appreciate your observations, your concern and your call just the same. It may have prevented a tragedy. Then, due to our congested streets and highways, you may become involved in an accident. The Law states that accidents causing personal injury and property damage over $1000.00 must be reported to the Police. You, most certainly, must notify your Insurance Company and fill out an Accident Report Form. Your Police can be of great help in this regard. The Accident Reconstruction Team will determine where the fault lies. Their report can be accessed by an Attorney and your Insurance Company. When you are involved in an accident or you observe one, make that 9-1-1 call. Give your location to the 9-1-1 operator. Also let them know if there is personal injury or the appearance of personal injury or a fire. That way the necessary equipment along with Police Cruisers will be dispatched. If your help is not required, don’t take the chance of becoming an additional victim. Leave the scene. Leave it to the professional responders.
